May 23-29, 2022 – Custer State Park & Black Hills, South Dakota
… on the way to Custer State Park/ Black Hills… we overnight on a private campground in Ranchester to finally enjoy water and electric hookups 🙂We stop at Jewel Cave National Monument on the way – the third larges cave on the world. Jewel Cave is pretty impressive.Next stop is Custer State Park.With lots (!!!) of Prairie Dogs. It is fun to watch the little once playing.The new Bison Center with lots of bison info.The bison center building just opened.Oooops – someone is feeding the cute donkeys 😉Soooo many bison – some on the street “cleaning” the cars.… and also here many little once!A stop in Rapid City – with the “Art Ally”.Ooooops !Next campground in the Back Hills National ForestOur campsite might not look interesting …. but is really nice and spacious.Oh – we found a piece of work 🙂… and here we go – hurry we want to have a campfire tonight!Spearfish Canyon … super nice – with many waterfalls.A hike to the Custer Peak …… with nice 360 degree views And of course in the Black Hills – a stop at Mount Rushmore National MemorialWe walk the Presidential Trail – to see them a bit closer.While we where hiking – our campground neighbors went fishing. Pretty successful – and as they could not eat all the rainbow trout we got some for a nice dinner! Super fresh trout – Yummm !We walk a few miles of the 111 miles long Centennial Trail. Very nice!.. and lots of wildflowers on the trail!
