June 4-9, 2023 – Nevada

Nevada
On the way to the next campground we stopped by he Bonneville Salt Flats …
… the size is absolutely amazing.
Our next Stop Southfork State Recreation Area located at the South Fork Reservoir.
Our nice lakefront campsite …
… with great sunset views.
On the next day – millions of mormon crickets start crossing the street.
A very strange feeling to drive here ….
This “event” was all over the local news.
Lamoille Canyon – a super nice Scenic Drive.
… right into the canyon.
… with great views …
… and LOTS of water in the creeks from the melting snow.
Oooops the “leftovers” of an avalange stopped us on the senic drive.
But at least we get very close to the snow 😉
On the senice drive – we hike Thomas Canyon.
Very nice trail … with lots of waterfalls.
After soo many miles towing trailer – we decided an oil change would be a good idea.
Water Canyon is BLM Land.
We get the nicest walk-in campsite – and it was free!
… right on the creek – with plenty of firewood!
And the trees are full of beautiful birds!
We hiked in the canyon.
We are on the same route as the historic Califormia Trail. Betweenn 1841 and 1869, up to 250,000 people sold their belongings, packed wagons, and set out for California – dreaming of a better life – some ending in good fortune, and others ending in tragedy. Seeing the tough landscape here – not hard to unserstand it was “Traveling through hell”.
Next stop is Washoe Lake State Park – located on Washoe Lake – right “around the corner” from Lake Tahoe.
A great campsite …
… with a georgeous view to the Lake and the Sierra Nevada.
The state park is home of many wild horses – wild horses are very common in this area.
… they run right by our campsite.
A drive to and around Lake Tahoe. The scenery is absolutely amazing!!!
Emerald Cove
And beaches – a bit to cold for us to go swimming 😉
